Adventure in the Lysefjord – With the kids on a RIB trip!

This summer we decided to do something a little out of the ordinary – a RIB trip in the Lysefjord! With two children aged 7 and 10, we were a little nervous about how it would go, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of our holiday in Stavanger.

We showed up at the pier early in the morning, and the kids were already busy putting on life jackets and asking the guide about the boat.

Our guide was both funny and knowledgeable, and he made sure everyone felt safe before we set off into the fjord.

The Lysefjord is truly a masterpiece of nature. The high mountains rising straight out of the water, waterfalls plunging down the mountainside, and not least Pulpit Rock, which towers majestically over the fjord – it was like being in the middle of a postcard.

The children were completely fascinated, and cheered every time the boat took a turn or jumped over the waves.

One of the highlights was when we drove into Fantahålå – a small cave in the mountainside where the "fants" (wanderers) are said to have hidden long ago. The guide told stories that made the children sit with wide eyes and their imaginations in full swing.

We also stopped at a waterfall where we could feel the water droplets on our faces, and the boat drove so close to the rock wall that it felt like we could touch it. It was both exciting and beautiful – a perfect combination for a family who loves nature and speed.

The trip lasted about two hours, and when we returned to the dock we were full of impressions and with big smiles on our faces. The children talked about the trip for the rest of the day, and were already asking if we could do it again next year.

Tips for other families:

Bring windproof clothing – it gets cold quickly!

Sunglasses and sunscreen are a good idea, even if it’s cloudy.

Ask the guide to tell stories – it makes the trip extra exciting for the kids.

Remember your camera – you’ll regret not taking any pictures!

The RIB tour in the Lysefjord is truly an experience we recommend to all families visiting the Stavanger area. It was both a family and child-friendly activity.
